Your handmade pen contains natural wood. As with any piece of wood furniture or cabinet, it will require care and occasional maintenance. Here are some routine care instructions you can follow to keep your new pen performing and looking like new for years to come:
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, alcohol, or solvents on your pen. These cleaners can damage the wood’s finish and metal parts. Use only a damp (not soaking wet) cotton cloth to occasionally clean your pen.
- Avoid extreme heat or cold. These are enimies of wood products and can cause splitting or cracking of your pen body.
- Do not leave your pen in your car. Temperatures in a vehicle can be extreme. Treat your pen as a peice of fine furniture.
- Your pen is meant to be used. Use it frequently. Ink can and will dry out if it sits around long enough. Rollerballs and fountain pens are particularly suseptable to ink drying. T(hat’s why they almost always have a cap.) Keep your pen retracted or capped when not in use.
- Do not expose your pen to direct sunlight for extended perios of time. Sunlight contains ultraviolet light whick can damage the finishes of your pen. Extreme heat will also cause your ink to run or leak.
- A light coating of quality furniture polish or past wax should be applied every month or two. Do not use automotive wax or polish. These contain fine abrasives that can damage the wood finish and wear metal coatings.
